“I love the idea of an ice cream parlour at F&M!” say most reporters who visit this “attractively decorated room with views of Piccadilly” on the first floor of this venerable grocer’s shop (whose Royal Warrant was renewed by King Charles following the death of his late mother). For most reporters it’s “just a total joy of nostalgic indulgence and great fun”: “excellent for children who love ice cream and who can create their dream concoctions; and with very good Welsh rarebit for the adults”. A small minority of reports are more sniffy (“a tacky experience, compounded by a huge bill!”).

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"I love the idea of the ice cream parlour at F&M. In the event, it was good, but not amazing. There is a wide selection including some exotic flavours, although the popular ones seem to sell out. The room is attractively decorated with views over Piccadilly."
