“Really tasty Mexican food in a fairly spartan setting” established this Notting Hill venue as one of London’s original taco specialists, and 20 years on it remains on some accounts “possibly the best”. Now with an offshoot in Exmouth Market, it continues to serve “excellent mojitos” which makes it “a good choice for lunch… if one has nothing else planned for the afternoon”.

“Really delicious and varied tacos and tostadas” plus “killer margaritas” ensure a “busy atmosphere (and sometimes haphazard service)” at this Westbourne Grove cantina, which was a pioneer of the Mexican street food boom when it graduated from market stall to bricks and mortar in 2005. It’s now spreading its wings, with a new spin-off in Exmouth Market under Adam Pawlak, who has been in the W11 kitchen for a dozen years.

A pioneer of the London taco boom – this Mexican cantina on the Notting Hill and Bayswater border is “good value for money” and “an excellent choice for lunch”. After 15 years, however, its menu seems “less interesting than it used to be” – perhaps standards elsewhere have risen. “But the mojitos are as good as ever”. (Oldies may recall that this was the joint David Cameron used to be conscientiously spotted in, to show how chilled he was.)

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"I was expecting to be really underwhelmed judging by others' reviews, but we really liked it. Portions are a bit tiny though."
