“They like grilling!” – in fact pretty well every dish at this “thoroughly enjoyable” Soho yearling, from St Petersburg restaurateurs Madina Kazhimova and Anna Dolgushina, has been ‘touched by flames’, resulting in some really “lovely food”. It’s served in a very contemporary interior, alongside a list of natural wines.

Summary

St Petersburg restaurateurs, Madina Kazhimova and Anna Dolgushina opened this 46-cover restaurant and biodynamic wine bar in summer 2022 newcomer too late for our annual diners’ poll, on the Soho site that was previously Corazon (RIP). Greek chef, Nikos Kontongiannatos (formerly head chef at Caravan) delivers plates cooked over fire in a low-lit space that’s all concrete and exposed brickwork. In her July 2022 review, The Guardian’s Grace Dent was well-impressed: “The standard of cooking, matched with genuinely intriguing and appetising dishes, puts it right up there on my list of 2022’s important openings”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Completely underwhelmed. Waited for the fireworks and they did not arrive. Wine disappointing. Service lacklustre."
