Harden's says

The first London opening from the US Tao group, which owns Hakkasan, is a branch of its nightclubby high-end Italian brand, Lavo, in Marylebone High Street's new BoTree hotel, opening October 2023. Expect resident DJs and maximalist food, including signature wagyu meatballs and 20-layer chocolate cake.

“There’s a fun, party atmosphere with loud music (that might not be to everyone’s taste)” at this Italian yearling in a swish boutique hotel: part of the US Tao Group, who also own Hakkasan and Yauatcha; and who run Lavo siblings in LA, NYC, Singapore and Mexico City. It’s a kind of rich man’s Gloria – you go more for the colour-changing ceiling light feature and to channel ersatz Italian Hollywood glamour than you do to mull over the authenticity of its comfort foodish menu, which takes in pizza, pasta and the likes of chicken parmigiana on the way to the climax of its signature ‘indulgent 20-Layer Chocolate Cake’. Even so, most reports insist it’s “a great addition to Marylebone”.

Summary

An Italian September 2023 newcomer, from Tao Group Hospitality: the business which owns the (nowadays international) Hakkasan and Yauatcha chains. Within a swish new boutique hotel in Marylebone, the press release promises ‘a vibrant space illuminated by a colour-changing light feature that expands across the ceiling’, where you can enjoy pastas, pizzas, ‘a showstopper Wagyu meatball topped with whipped ricotta’ (wow!) and ‘an indulgent 20-layer chocolate cake’.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
