“A favourite local, always to be relied on” – this cosy, all-day fixture in Strand on the Green, from Lorraine Angliss, is still popular after 24 years. A branch in Barnes hit the buffers a while ago, but three other sister venues are still thriving – Little Bird in Battersea and Rock & Rose in Richmond and most recently Chiswick High Road.

A “great neighbourhood restaurant and brunch spot” – this cosy all-day operation in pretty Strand on the Green was the first from West London restaurateur Lorraine Angliss and has catered for 20 years to a local clientele looking for “reliable cooking” rather than gastronomic fireworks. (A branch in Barnes shut up shop a couple of years ago, blaming the closure of Hammersmith Bridge for reduced trade).

“Such a good neighbourhood spot” – Lorraine Angliss’s cosy diner has been a feature of Strand-on-the-Green for approaching two decades now. Not every dish turns out super-exciting, but it makes a good choice for a chilled brunch or other relaxed get-together.

This “enviable local star” from former Sticky Fingers director Lorraine Angliss knows exactly its doing after more than 15 years in Strand-on-the-Green – and its ratings are always very dependable. The menu may not be the most exciting in town, but it’s “varied” and contributes to a “totally relaxing” meal. Its Barnes sibling is no more.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
