All stylish white tablecloths and “romantic, old-school” atmosphere – this Acton Green fixture serves “really good French bistro cuisine” to a happy crowd of regulars. “So consistent for so long”, it “gets very busy at weekends”“long may Le Vacherin last – there are far too few places like it”. The one muted criticism, voiced by a minority of reporters, is that it “never quite delivers on expectations – we always leave wanting just a bit more”.

“Consistently good food” and a “lovely French atmosphere” earn solid ratings for this long-running bistro – an unusually “authentic Gallic experience” by Acton Green. It’s “excellent value”, too, “if you choose carefully”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"This is more than a bistro - this is seriously good classical French cooking. Impeccably cooked and presented. More than worth the detour. "
