“Whilst an unexciting-looking place, the food is consistently enjoyable” – both punchy Isaan dishes from the northwest and seafood from the south – at this “starkly decorated” canteen near Stamford Brook tube (often somewhat over-egged in fooderati ‘best of’ lists as a seminal cheap eat).

“Uncompromising and authentic northern Thai cooking that pulls no punches in terms of chilli heat and flavour” is the draw to this “basic, no-frills” family canteen near Stamford Brook Tube that has attracted a cult following. The Isaan dishes from northwest Thailand are complemented by southern Thai seafood by ‘Auntie Bee’, offering a remarkably wide range of cuisines. “Very tasty but a bit limited with its portions, which partly accounts for its very reasonable prices”.

“Phenomenally authentic”, family-run Thai caff near Stamford Brook, on busy King Street, that’s become a cult destination amongst Asian food cognoscenti for its Isaan dishes from the country’s northeast, supplemented by southern seafood by ‘Auntie Bee’; the food “feels like the real McCoy – and is quite challenging as a result”. The place is “filled with Thai expats – what more do you need to say? Oh, it’s cheap as chips”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
