Harden's says

Soft-launching in late May just a few doors along Crisp Street from Sam's Riverside, Sam Harrison's vision of "the perfect little local corner café" offers a full English breakfast and all-day bacon rolls alongside more contemporary dishes such as beetroot with halloumi and za’atar on sourdough with goat's cheese, crushed nuts, pickled red onion, roasted garlic confit and poached eggs.

Sam Harrison’s “cute café just off the river in Hammersmith” is tucked away in a backstreet across the road from Riverside Studios (home to his mothership ‘Sam’s Riverside’). “It’s often difficult to create an original breakfast menu but Sam’s Kitchen manages it” with “an interesting and well executed-range of options”. “On a sunny day, an outside table eating crab crumpets with poached eggs is so good!!” And it already has a welcoming sibling in a similar vein in Chiswick, in the parade of shops near Turnham Green tube: “some innovative dishes here for both breakfast and brunch from chef Abbey Hendren: especially the lemon and ricotta hotcakes... a local café with class!”

Summary

Just behind Sam’s Riverside, on the site that was Café Plum (RIP) – Sam Harrison’s vision of a ‘perfect little local corner café’ offers a full English breakfast and all-day bacon rolls alongside more contemporary dishes such as beetroot with halloumi and za’atar on sourdough with goat’s cheese, crushed nuts, pickled red onion, roasted garlic confit and poached eggs. It opened in summer 2023, too late for feedback in our annual diners’ poll.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Great lunch stop: interesting short menu (the messiest most enjoyable chicken sandwich I can remember), charming and sympathetic service."
