“A lovely little cafe” near the river in Hammersmith whose serene interior is a surprise given a location barely 100m from the whizzing traffic of the A4. Chef Lindsay Elder and her “friendly” staff provide (somewhat pricey) fancy buns, “great salads” and other light fare to passers-by and West London ladies who either lunch or do coffee.

Very ‘zen’ for somewhere barely 100m from the A4 – this “delightful” Hammersmith café serves an “original and interesting” menu of light bites and luscious cakes and makes a handy stop-off from a riverside stroll. It was beautifully converted from a builders’ merchants four years ago by chef Lindsay Elder; and its calm interior is a good match for the yoga and pilates sessions in the upstairs room.

If it wasn’t for the A4 running 100m from the front door, this stylish café would have a “perfect location a short walk from the river at Hammersmith”. Inside, the funky interior is almost “yoga studio-esque” in its level of zen, and does superb coffee, plus “super hot choc and buns” as well as some good-but-pricey light bites.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"What an excellent cafe located opposite The Black Lion pub very close to the River. Nice people, excellent food all freshly prepared food served in a delightful quirky building. Particularly notable are the orange cinnamon Morning Buns which have a texture akin to a multi-layered croissant crossed with a doughnut. Absolutely delicious!"
