“Outdoors is excellent on a fine day” on the foliage-filled terrace of the lounge dining room of this hip hotel – all the more remarkable as it’s just seconds away from St Pancras station over the road. “Indoors is not as much of an attraction”, unless you are a fan of 1970s decor in which case it’s a must-visit given its former life as Camden Council Library (with many of the books still on hand to add to the vibe). On the menu: “light and fresh” if not particularly ground-breaking modern European dishes; all delivered by particularly can-do staff. See also The Double Standard and Decimo.

The gorgeous, glazed summer terrace adjoining the main lounges is a highpoint at this bar/restaurant opposite St Pancras. Its other features include the superb 1970s decor and shelves lined with books inherited from the hotel’s former life as the Camden Council Library. Extra convenient if you need a meeting place near King’s Cross – it serves a dependable all-day modern European menu and service is particularly friendly and efficient.

Next to the Double Standard (see also), the hotel’s book-lined lounge and restaurant (the books were inherited from St Pancras Library, previously on this site) shares the “buzzy atmosphere, convenient location, good value short menu” and impeccably cheerful and efficient service of its neighbour. In summer, it also has a superb, quiet covered terrace that feels a millions miles from WC1.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
