Harden's survey result
Summary
“Very friendly” and “authentic” – this “family-run traditional Italian trattoria” is a “dependable and good-value” option in Covent Garden, “with outside tables in decent weather”. The food is “good but not exceptional”. Top Menu Tip – “try the calves’ liver and tiramisu”.
Summary
“Narrow, buzzy and full of black-and-white photos of Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn and Marcello Mastroianni in their heyday” – this longstanding Covent Garden stalwart “is like a trattoria from one’s dreams of holidays in Tuscany or Rome”. “Andrea, the entertaining owner, loves a good chat with guests while they enjoy delicious Italian dishes just like mamma used to make. All ages have a great time”.
Summary
This “nice, intimate, friendly Italian restaurant” in Covent Garden makes you feel “as if you were in Italy”. The retirement of the family that ran it for years seems to have had little effect on the menu of basic trattoria classics, “reasonably priced wines and smiling welcome”.
Summary
An “old-fashioned, warm and lovely Italian”, whose “comforting” ‘throwback’ style is at odds with its very central Covent Garden location. The family who ran ran it for so many years retired in August 2018, however, and – though the staff remain – some old-timers are concerned: “since the change of ownership the standard of cooking in this much-loved restaurant seems to have slipped, while the prices have increased. However its proximity to theatres means it is still busy”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Da Mario Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Popped in on the off-chance a table would be available before going to a show in Drury Lane. Luckily there was and we had a lovely meal of Melanzane Alla Parmigian which was delicious, followed by the spaghetti dish of the day (forgot the name) which had a seafood additions (besides vongole), also delicious. Service was impeccable."
