Harden's says

Gordon Ramsay has taken over a third space at The Savoy; this one overlooks the Savoy Hotel entrance and serves dishes inspired by Escoffier during his time at The Savoy Hotel in 1890 (hence the name).

“A true special-occasion destination” – Gordon Ramsay’s bijou first-floor dining room in the Savoy has been one of his best openings of recent times and provided one reporter’s “best meal in the last couple of years”. James Sharp oversees a “fabulous” tasting menu that deals excellently with the constraints of the main kitchen being at a distance from the dining room. There’s a thoughtful selection of wines by the glass – if you really want to push the boat out, you can even order 50 ml of 1779 Madeira for £750. The small space best suits it to an intimate diner à deux (easy conversation is provided by your bird’s-eye view of the comings and goings at the Savoy’s main entrance); although there are a couple of tables for larger parties. “Expensive but can’t fault it”.

“Beautifully decorated”, this small, gold-decorated jewel box of a restaurant in the Savoy opened in 2022 (a location that in days gone by was a cheaper eatery called ‘Upstairs’, long RIP). A major plus is its bird’s-eye view of the comings and goings at the hotel’s main entrance, providing a superb talking-point for your date: the best use for the place as its few tables are mostly doubles and space is tight. The main kitchens are elsewhere in the building, so the menu is “limited” but “very good if you like what you receive”.

“A beautiful small and intimate newcomer” with gorgeous gold-hued décor, created by Gordon Ramsay in the bijou first-floor space above the Savoy Grill and overlooking the hotel entrance that some will remember as ‘Upstairs’ (long RIP). Chef James Sharp provides an accomplished nine-course tasting menu “well-prepared in classic Ramsay style” (and necessarily quite straightforward given the lack of kitchen facilities nearby) matched with “great attentive service from Sarah Rhone” and her team. The position, with many windows overlooking the entrance, provides many a talking point with the comings and goings down below.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
