1919, The Cottage in the Wood Restaurant Diner Reviews
"The obvious attraction of this restaurant is the spectacular and panoramic view from the Malvern hills across the plain. When we ate there many years ago that was pretty well the only attraction. But now the food is impressive. We enjoyed a three course lunch menu with very fresh, original well executed seasonal dishes (and a couple of nice amuse bouches) for the bargain price of £34 pp. Service was friendly and professional, and altogether the food was at least as good as the nearby Inn at Welland, with the scenic view (from our window table) an added bonus!"
Harden's survey result
Summary
“Spectacular and panoramic views from the Malvern Hills across the Severn Valley” are a major plus at this “cosy hotel dining room”. When it comes to the victuals, one reporter cautions that “when they stick to plain stuff, it is very good but then the kitchen gets carried away and the result is sometimes disappointing”. For the most part, though, there’s nothing but praise for “chef Rob Mason’s creative dishes”, which fans say “offer pure taste delight at very reasonable prices”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
