“Still the best-value food in Manchester city centre – perfect for a good cheap daytime filler” (not least their famous ‘rice and three curries deal’, inching up in price but only at a snail’s pace); “apart from a minor refit a few years back”, this Northern Quarter curry house “has been doing the same thing since forever – and when it remains this good, why change?”

This legendary cheap ’n’ cheerful Northern Quarter curry canteen is “still the best-value food in Manchester city centre” – as it has been for almost 40 years. “If you’re a veggie you can choose rice and 3 curries for under a fiver: an absolute bargain”. It even inspires poetry amongst some fans: “steaming-full plates of flavour-packed nosh, all of them served for v little dosh”.

“No change at this Manchester institution and why should they?”. “The curt service is not what you go here for”, nor is the “no-frills” decor – you go for the “best value-for-money curry out there”. PS – “if you're veggie you can get rice and three curries for less than a fiver” (and it's only £6.50 if you go for the carnivorous option).

“Can’t beat it!” for “big platefuls of steaming, flavour-packed curries for not much dosh!” – this brilliantly named curry house (“just point at what’s on offer and he dollops it on your plate”) has been a Northern Quarter institution for 35 years. Family-run, it’s “a model of consistency”, and hugely popular for its offer of “rice and three different curries for £6”. “There’s talk of redevelopment for new offices, but a lot of the office workers in the area will protest loudly!!”

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
