Harden's survey result
Summary
They “recently extended the outdoor space and garden” at this imposing wattle-and-daub Elizabethan inn, built for the Keeper of the Privy Purse to Elizabeth I, no less. Together with a “new menu” of snacks and heartier grub it now makes a “great eating place” by all accounts.
Summary
Dominating the high street of the village, this Grade I-listed Elizabethan inn, with its wattle-and-daub infill, was built for financier Sir Thomas Gresham, who kept Elizabeth I’s privy purse; the newly extended restaurant and old-world pub offers a large array of fine pubby food from Ploughman’s to heartier grub.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Middle House Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Beyond expectations This venue is do much more than the stunning exterior suggests. Inside you have some very different dining areas. We chose the traditional restaurant, hailing from when the building was built in 1575. The decor is frankly amazing and seems wholly authentic. Some areas are newer, not least the glass conservatory. Starter was a very unusually plated calamari, with dressing and veg garnish, beautifully presented.my partner was delighted with her liver pate. My main was a superb lamb rump with the most perfectly cooked hassleback potatoes. We then moved on to one of the most stunning desserts I have eaten in a long while. A raspberry and Rhubarb fool with candied pistachios. Perfect texture with brilliant flavours and so light too. Special mention for the non alcoholic gin cocktail which was large and well priced too. Staff were really friendly and brilliant at their jobs. Toilets clean too."
