Named for the two locals who founded this small venue in 2017, it’s nowadays acknowledged as one of the most accomplished foodie destinations in the area. Earlier in the week, there’s the option of an à la carte menu, but at the weekends the sole choice is chef Henry Ireson’s ambitious nine-course menu for £85 per person.

“A wonderful find in the centre of Newbury”: local lads Henry and Joe’s “small but perfectly formed gem” (22 covers) has been open a couple of years now and is winning renown for its “incredible value and great food”. “Passionately run” by this “former head chef and head waiter from the Woodspeen” they “started it as a pop-up and it grew from there”: “the open kitchen runs like clockwork”, service from Joe is “very personalised” and results – either from the à la carte or (if you push the boat out) the seven-course taster menu for £75 – are “truly stunning: every element of each dish is well thought out and blissful flavours dance around in the mouth”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
