This “great local Italian” has been a popular success over the past 17 years, and owner “Angelo Cocchia is brilliant as front of house, supported by his team”. “Shortage of staff means some services have now stopped, and two sittings for dinner has been normal in recent times”.

“Far removed from the usual ‘trat’”, Angelo Cocchia’s award-winning Italian (est. 2006) turns out unpretentious ‘nonna-style’ dishes inspired by head chef Daniela's grandma, as well as wines from his own home region. “Friendly” service seals the deal.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"second visit and food was good without being exceptional. service from the owner is on point. atmosphere is ok, but with massively large groups of men (mainly American) who are golfing locally, the decor needs to somehow dampen the noise"

What the Newspaper Critics are saying

The Times

Chitra Ramaswamy was impressed by this “stalwart, you might even say the formidable nonna, of North Berwick’s burgeoning foodie scene”, run by chef Daniele di Marco, his wife Daniela, her father Angelo and brother Stefano.

“No on-trend blackened hispi cabbage frosted with parmigiana here. I love Osteria’s resolute conventionality. It’s been too long since I’ve encountered butter curls in a restaurant. How retro, and delightful.
