Summary

“A beautiful and romantic setting” – this small hotel and golf resort has an idyllic, away-from-it-all location on a small tidal island at the entrance to Loch Creran. Still too few reports for a rating, although such feedback as we have on Ernst Van Zyl’s cuisine is upbeat.

Summary

On a small tidal island at the entrance to Loch Creran, this well-regarded small hotel (25 rooms) is nowadays owned by HK-based company, Creation Gem (having been family owned from 1973 to 2016). Much accoladed on the food front, it is the subject currently of constant investment and reinvention and – since October 2021 – has a new chef (Ernst Van Zyl) and restaurant manager (his partner Elizabeth Kellett). Feedback please!

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
