Harden's survey result
Summary
With its “lovely decorations and plants”, this former neo-Gothic bank in the High Street – transformed by a £5 million makeover five years ago – elicits reports similar to its stablemates across the country, with its “beautiful interior” being its most important selling feature. That said, its brasserie fare is better rated than at many of its siblings.
Summary
Bang in the centre of town, the Oxford branch of Richard Caring’s tentacular national operation struggles to generate even the mixed praise it achieves elsewhere. “Perfectly adequate – but now The Ivy is a chain, it’s missing the magic” is about as good as it gets. Other reporters are less kind: “overpriced sub-standard food with service to match” being about par for the course.
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
