Five-year-old French bistro in Summertown offering “a limited but well-executed menu”, alongside “delightful service and a warm and friendly ambience”. Chef-patron Pascal Wiedermann (ex-Racine, Terroirs and Six Portland Place), who runs it with his wife Laura, scatters his Gallic cuisine with touches from across Europe. Even fans, though, say “sometimes the food is excellent, but unfortunately it can be variable”. Top Tip – “look out for the early evening drink and snack offers”.

This “relaxed French bistro offering contemporary cuisine and good service” from chef-patron Pascal Wiedermann (ex-Terroirs) and his wife Laura has established a strong niche in Summertown, north of the city centre. The “consistently high standard of cooking” at this French wine bar and bistro from Laura & Pascal Wiedermann (ex-Terroirs) in the north Oxford suburb of Summertown make it a valued favourite for numerous reporters, some of whom had their best meal of the year here. The “professional team makes us very welcome”, and the “set meals are really good value”.

“Quality cuisine in a pleasant north Oxford location with outside terrace” is to be found at Laura and Pascal Wiedermann’s wine bar and dining room. Formerly of highly rated London ventures Racine and Terroirs, it offers a similarly Frenchified mix of (quite rich) cuisine and quality wines. Top Tip: “imaginative and tasty lunch / early evening set menus are cracking value”.

"we and our two Oxford based friends were all pleasantly surprised by the overall quality here. Fish soup and spatchcock quail starters were well conceived and generous. The cod and halibut mains were nicely done and presented. We only had a single bottle of wine, a white burgundy, that pleased everyone. The dessert list was short, and observing adjacent tables, what was presented looked satisfactory, but with a long drive back we settled on two courses."
