Harden's survey result
Summary
One of the lesser-known venues in the local Stein empire, set in an old stone building in the heart of Padstow, this low key bistro serves “excellent” and “reliable meals that never disappoint” – “we usually enjoy fish”. Importantly for some visitors, there’s “a small indoor dog-friendly space”.
Summary
Part of the ‘Padstein’ empire of Rick, Jill and family, this hotel bistro a little away from the harbour is a simpler offering than their flagship. Its performance has sometimes been a little uneventful historically, but its “well-priced menu of great tasting fish and seafood” is well-rated by all who commented on it this year.
Summary
“One of Rick Stein's many offerings in Padstow” – aka “the mid-price Stein offering” – is “still good”, but also still continues to split opinion; while there is some “wonderful” fishy fare on offer (particular shout-out for the “fantastic” breakfast kippers), there’s also a view that it's “overall a bit disappointing given the reputation”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
