Harden's survey result
Summary
“The best view in the world” – over Loch Linnhe and the island of Lismore – elevate a visit to this “lovely” hotel-restaurant in the “fantastic setting” of an ex-piermaster’s house. “Seafood is king here”, with “generous platters of local produce” amongst the “simple and brilliant” offering (none of which will dent your wallet as much as a trip to its famed Skye sibling, the Three Chimneys).
Summary
It’s “worth the detour” to sample the “excellent fresh and simple seafood” at this former piermaster’s house overlooking Loch Linnhe, noted for its “old-fashioned service and ambience”. “Sister to the Three Chimneys on Skye, this hotel is more accessible and equally good”.
Summary
The kitchen at this former piermaster’s house has come back “better than ever”, with a “simplified menu (possibly because of Covid) but quality unsurpassed”. Highlights include shellfish from the locality – Loch Creran oysters, Loch Leven mussels and Loch Linnhe langoustines. A sibling of the famous Three Chimneys in Skye, the Pierhouse has wonderful sea views across to the Isle of Mull.
Summary
A former piermaster’s house is the setting for this hotel dining room, which boasts epic views over Loch Linnhe to Lismore, and whose food focuses on simply cooked but superb fishy fare, be it oysters from nearby Loch Ceran or mussels and langoustines from Loch Linnhe (though game fans are also in for a treat).
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Pierhouse Hotel Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Outstanding mainly fish and shellfish restaurant in a quite remarkable setting. The views over the loch and the grandeur of the mountains give that wow factor. The fish and shellfish dishes are a joy and well executed (The Sunday Roast should be avoided -it’s just not the chef’s forte). The staff are so helpful and attentive which makes all the difference and their advice is worthwhile. All in all a great dining experience "
