Harden's says
The first joint venture for Allister Barsby and Alice Bussi, who worked together for The Seren Collection in Wales - before that, Allister was head chef at Gidleigh Park and Alice was at The Bath Priory, as sommelier and restaurant manager. They have opened in a small Kent village near Hythe, and aim to use as much local and seasonal produce as possible.
Harden's survey result
Summary
“Delighted with the food matches and the quality of the produce” – chef Allister Barsby and manager Alice Bussi’s are celebrating their fifth year at this “lovely little restaurant… their Michelin star is well deserved”. All reports this year are unanimous on its “consistently fabulous cooking, with service and wines to match” which provided some diners with their best meal of the year. “I might have given it 5/5 for food, service and atmosphere had there been more guests creating a warmer atmosphere”.
Summary
“A real treat of a place” – this stylish restaurant was opened five years ago by a talented pair, Kent-born chef Allister Barsby (head chef at Gidleigh Park on Dartmoor at 24) and Italian Alice Bussi (food & beverage manager of the year in the 2018 Catey awards). The praise is unanimous: “we go when there’s something to celebrate. We’ve been three times over the last few years and it has never failed to be a joy – the food is fabulous and the service and front of house exceptional”. “One of the most amazing dinners I have had, in a very serene environment with exceptional service”.
Summary
The impressive 2019 debut restaurant from Kent-born chef Allister Barsby (who was appointed head chef at Devon’s Gidleigh Park at the age of 24), and Italian-born Alice Bussi (food & beverage manager of the year in the 2018 Catey awards). It helps that it’s a “cosy” venue, but the focus is on the “excellent food” – with the choice of a 5-course or 8-course tasting menu – and accompanying wine matches (“a good choice of local vintages, as well as many from further afield”).
Summary
“A long-awaited restaurant for the mid-Kent area” run by overachieving local boy Allister Barsby, who was made head chef at Gidleigh Park at just 24. The smart, contemporary spot retains the wooden shelves from its former days as the village shop, while Allister delivers modern British cuisine that's “first class in every way”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Quickly becoming our favourite restaurant.. an informal relaxed atmosphere, with food as close to perfection as it can be.. "
"We had a fabulous evening on a stormy night in February, which had deterred other diners. We were therefore treated to a unique experience for the 8 course taster menu , with very personalised service. We were delighted with the food pairings and the quality of the produce. "
