Harden's survey result
Summary
“Overlooking the sea and beach in a wonderful location” – a striking wood-and-glass structure backdrops Fred Clapperton’s “outstanding” food (“especially fish”). The local sourcing is impeccable (including bivalves from Atlantic Edge Oysters, who use regenerative farming methods), as is the “wow-factor attention to detail” – e.g. charcoal-rich cocktail ‘The 1829’, which nods to the year an act was passed to create the railway line on which the building sits. NB – watch out for the new summer terrace, offering tipples and fancy sharing plates.
Summary
This “lovely”, modern wood-and-glass restaurant in a “brilliant location overlooking the sea” showcases the “excellent” skills of chef Fred Clapperton (ex-The Clockhouse, Surrey), with locally sourced ingredients ranging from line-caught sea bass from the bay and native oysters farmed with regenerative methods; through to Rhug Estate game and vegetables grown at sister hotel Grove of Narberth.
Summary
This “laidback” beachside venture is “the best restaurant for miles”, both owing to chef Tom Hine’s “imaginative” food (à la carte or from an “exceptional” six-course tasting menu, to be taken by the whole table), and to the “stunning” views over the sea. “I only wish we lived closer to this wonderful place!”
Summary
You get “impressive views whilst enjoying great seafood” at this “light and airy”, timber-clad venue, which has a “beautiful setting” right on the sands. Chef Tom Hine’s cooking is excellent, be it from the à la carte or fancier five-course tasting menu for £59 (which must be taken by the whole table). “Great with kids too (there’s a kids’ menu) whilst serving exceptional food with an amazing view”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
