“Built right on the seafront in St Andrews”, this striking glazed venue sits “yards away from the iconic Old Course – a stunning location with views across a two-mile stretch of sand”. “As you’d expect in Scotland at this price level, ingredients are super-fresh and of exceptional quality. Lobster and langoustine are landed fresh at the local harbour” and their preparation is “good and solid”. “The downside is that it can be mega busy in peak season and is extremely popular with high-rolling US golfers, so reservations are a must. But with views like this, who cares?”

The “magnificent setting” in a glass box perched on the shore, just along from the A&R clubhouse, is the USP of this “excellent fish restaurant” with an Italian accent, run by Stefano Pieraccini of the family-owned Rocca group. “Book a window seat for the sea view” – although, in fact, the 360-degree views are pretty spectacular from every table.

A long drive from the A&R clubhouse but just a short putt from the sea, this swanky modern seafood restaurant occupies a glass box perched dramatically on the shore, with “wonderful views” and a menu that takes full advantage of the “great fish” caught nearby.

This “great fish restaurant” with an Italian-accented menu makes the most of its “wonderful sea views from a floor-to-ceiling ‘glass box’ location” (and its proximity to the R&A clubhouse). It’s considerably swankier than the average beach-side joint.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
