“St Ives has so many places to eat, but this is a favourite”“right in the middle of the seafront, and because it’s on the first floor you have a great view of the harbour and beach”. “The menu has plenty of fish options, but the meat-eater is also catered for”, while “the food quality is good, even if the options are not that innovative”.

“It’s slightly easier to get a table here than at its sibling, the Porthminster Cafe”. But, nevertheless, this is a “nice little place in this tourist town”“pleasant outside on a good day” and with “good basic food”.

Good news for chef Ben Prior, who has bounced back from his award-winning Ben's Cornish Kitchen, in Marazion, going into voluntary liquidation. He’s now helming the stoves at this harbourside venture known for its “good” food and location (even if the “ambience doesn’t match the sister beach restaurants” – e.g. Porthminster Café and Porthgwidden).

Overlooking the harbour and with a large terrace – impressive views are a highpoint at this contemporary (lots of wood, glass and steel) spin-off from the Porthminster Beach Café, situated closer to the centre of town. Too few reports last year for a rating, but such feedback as we have is positive all-round.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
