“Beautifully presented, interesting modern cuisine” is on the menu at this “Georgian coaching inn, centrally located in a lovely unspoilt historic port in the Exe estuary”, with “a conservatory-style dining room created by an intriguing glass roof over the former carriage yard”. “Seafood and fish is a speciality”, and post-pandemic they also operate a fishmonger’s.

“An excellent, good value, buzzy and atmospheric choice in this patchy region” – this old coaching inn near the River Exe has “a dedicated glazed restaurant atrium so it doesn’t look or feel like a pub”. A wide variety of menus caters well to just about any eventuality.

Near the River Exe, an eighteenth-century inn where the food is a very distinct cut above pub fare, served in an intimate dining room (Friday/Saturday evenings) or the more informal glazed atrium. A newish addition is their wet-fish deli, launched in lockdown to support local fishermen.

With its “lovely, accomplished cooking” and “beautiful building in a riverside village”, this smart, eighteenth-century inn near Exeter is “brilliant for a weekend break”. All the food is highly rated – from the eight-course tasting menu to the “excellent beef sandwiches and moreish homemade soup” served in the less formal Glasshouse.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
