Harden's survey result
Summary
“Divine fish and seafood” from Brixham is the mainstay of the blackboard menu at the Stacey family’s “small, intimate” and “good-value” spot, now in its fourth decade. “Have been going for years and the fantastic fresh fish never disappoints – have taken American friends who vow it’s the best they have ever had!”. There’s also a wine bar upstairs.
Summary
The “best fish”, landed across the harbour at Brixham, is what the Stacey family fixture, now 30 years old, is all about. Upstairs there’s an evening wine (and oyster) bar with panoramic views, and both venues provide ever-changing blackboard menus.
Summary
“Fish is the hero” (alongside wine from the wine bar upstairs, available by the glass from a chalked-up list) at the Stacey family’s fixture (est. 1993), where “you can actually see Brixham, where the fish is landed, through the windows”. It makes “a lovely setting to celebrate occasions or just a treat, with consistent high standards”.
Summary
“Outstanding, simply cooked fresh fish” features in all feedback on the Stacey family’s bright, relaxed restaurant (est. 1993), where you can eat the catch landed at Brixham downstairs – specials are listed on various blackboards – or pair one of 95 wines with oysters upstairs.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

No 7 Fish Bistro & Wine Bar Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Small error We had a couple of days in Torquay and decided to try two venues. We both love fish and seafood. The venue is well laid out, nice decor and great staff. The presentation of the raw fish to peruse when bought over by thr waiter is a great idea. The starter of prawn, scallop and mussel had great promise and great flavour BUT the mussels were gritty. Waiter told us there was a shortage of mussels and so they were struggling to source them. He said another party had commented about the grit! Why serve them then? The main was a selection of three fish cooked I. Different ways, all mini fillets. The cod and the plaice were delicious. Dessert was a soft chocolate mousse cake and I asked them to flame it with cointreau a delicious dessert. Overall a good meal lovely staff clean basic toilets but.....grit!"
"On many occasions here the fish is exceptionally well cooked. Cooked simply where the fish is the star. Great restaurant. Possibly the best fish restaurant on the south west. "
