In “a wonderful spot between Upton and Malvern”, overlooking the rolling countryside (especially if you dine al-fresco under the glass canopy), this “reassuringly consistent” gastropub “consistently ticks all the boxes”. The “quite adventurous” food makes it a staple in our annual diners’ poll, and if anything “they have upped their game of late”… add in “lovely decorations” and “friendly, fun staff” and “what more could you want”?

Terraced gardens and a glazed verandah help capitalise on the fine views of the Malvern Hills from this highly popular gastropub: “a class Worcestershire act” and the most commented-on venue in the county in our annual diners’ poll. All reports say “you can’t fault it”“always great food” and “the team is very efficient”.

“What a fantastic place” – a “very welcoming and comfortable” family-run inn that’s “pitched just right for an ‘at home’ atmosphere”. A “good selection of locally sourced options” features on the oft-changing menu, and all in a “wonderful” setting “with the option on nice days to eat outside”.

“A warm, welcoming, comfortable place with excellent food”“line-caught Shetland cod and good steaks” are stand-outs – this family-run inn is “extremely popular” (hence “very busy” and “noisy at times”).

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Owner's description

We located to the area in 2004 after purchasing the Verzon Hotel in Ledbury. Following an extensive refurbishment we created a small luxury boutique hotel resulting in recognition from prestigious guides such as Mr & Mrs Smith. Previous to this we operated a successful 2 AA rosette riverside restaurant for 16 years in Derbyshire.

Our food is prepared from fresh local produce and made from ‘scratch’, by a team of five talented chefs headed by Chris Exley and all sharing our vision and passion for quality food.

From the outside the Inn is located in a truly rural setting with quintessential English views of the Malvern Hills. When you step inside you will experience a genuine home-from-home atmosphere, flagstone floors, walls in muted colours, shabby chic furniture all unite to create a stylish and comfortable ambiance.

When the weather is warm enjoy lazy lunches or evening suppers in our terraced gardens with an external fireplace - we have cosy wool blankets to enjoy alfresco drinks as winter approaches, under our new glazed veranda. For that special occasion dine in private in our library themed room for up to 12 people.

Our philosophy is simple: — ‘attention to detail, value for money, aimed at the style conscious with discerning appetites’.

We look forward to welcoming you.
David & Gillian
