“In Little Vietnam in Shoreditch”, this brisk and busting canteen is an “institution” and, if nothing else, “scores well in its hygiene score by the standards of the area!” Service “if a little chaotic, is friendly” and its “home-style cooking, while not amazingly delicate, has plenty of choice, including very tasty pho”.

2024 Review: “Thoughtful” Vietnamese food is served at “fabulous prices for the generous portions” at this duo in Soho and Hoxton from Hieu Trung Bui, who has done much to popularise pho and other southeast Asian dishes in London over more than 20 years. That “plenty of Asian people eat there too” speaks for its “authentic” style.

2024 Review: “I couldn’t love it more”, say regulars of this Islington Vietnamese – “a family-run and family-oriented original, with reliable and delicious food”.

2021 Review: “The pho served here is the real thing – authentic, tasty and never fails”, is a commonly held view of this long-running and good-value Vietnamese canteen in Surrey Quays. “They also serve the best summer rolls I’ve ever encountered”.

“Delicious and authentic Vietnamese food” is “served fast and functionally” to a packed house at ex-Hakkasan chef Jeff Tan’s “fun and buzzy” warehouse-style Chinatown diner. Service is “very quick (too quick sometimes?)”, which makes it “perfect for pre- or post-theatre”, and “the small portions mean you can try more different dishes”. Fans say it’s “outstanding for the price you pay”.

2021 Review: “A great addition to the Notting Hill scene”, this three-year-old Vietnamese BBQ grill serves a “limited menu which one could eat pretty well every day: fresh, zingy and delicious – what more could you want?”. Owner Colin Tu (of the Salvation in Noodles pho joints) serves his mother’s recipe for fermented dipping sauce – MAM is pronounced ‘mum’ in Vietnamese.

This “enjoyable” South Kensington Vietnamese offers “tasty and original dishes” in a “clean-looking, functional” dining room that’s very different from ex-Hakkasan chef Jeff Tan’s first venture (the street food-style Viet Food in Chinatown).

“Buzzing, busy, delicious, rushed, noisy, crowded…” – this noodle bar is everything you might expect from a Vietnamese street-food outlet; and is notably “good value for the area”, situated as it is in a posh courtyard off Chelsea’s King’s Road. You could be forgiven for not realising that the name apparently means ‘happy Buddha’.
