British, Traditional Restaurants in Devon
1. Northcote Manor
British, Traditional restaurant in Umberleigh
Burrington - EX37
Sitting in 20 acres of Devon countryside with very pleasant views, this old manor house boasts a muralled Georgian dining room praised for its “consistently good cooking”. A particular attraction is the “extensive, albeit pricey selection of wines, featuring some obscure names”.
2. Riverford Field Kitchen
British, Traditional restaurant in Buckfastleigh
Wash Barn - TQ11
The “really imaginative, fresh and creative food served by engaged and enthusiastic staff” in the canteen at this organic veg box company’s HQ is “top, top grub – enough to turn the staunchest of meat-eaters into a temporary veggie!” – although some meat is served, albeit in a supporting role. Long-term admirers, though, regret that “the buffet of puds is no more, so you have to choose just one pud off the menu. I understand why COVID had this impact, but I do hope it isn’t permanent”.
3. The Royal George
British, Modern restaurant in Appledore
Irsha Street - EX39
2022 Review: “A lovely estuary view” accompanies a visit to this 400-year-old pub right on the water at this scenic fishing village – “a great find” to the uninitiated with a “very good” traditional pub menu.
