Featured Kew Restaurants
1. Hawthorn
British, Modern restaurant in Kew
14 Station Parade - TW9
“A very worthy successor to the beloved Glasshouse (RIP)” – this new Kew favourite is co-owned by its predecessor’s former manager, Patra Panas. Service is particularly “well-drilled and friendly”; and regulars are “delighted to find that little has changed” after a “seamless” changeover, with “many of the furnishings still in place” in the agreeable (a few feel, “slightly uninspiring”) dining room. Diners dispute whether the “intelligent and carefully crafted” cuisine, from chef and co-owner Josh Hunter, is a step up or down from before, but practically all agree it’s “very competent”, and say “we shall definitely return and recommend it highly!”
2. Petit Ma Cuisine
French restaurant in Kew
8 Station Approach - TW9
This “retro neighbourhood French bistro” in a parade of shops near Kew station is “massively popular with the locals due to its competitive prices” for “Gallic classics with a little twist” (and gets “very crowded at lunchtimes”).
3. Newens: The Original Maids of Honour
Afternoon tea restaurant in Kew
288 Kew Road - TW9
“Like taking tea in olden days” – this mock-Tudor tea room opposite Kew Gardens was built in the 1940s and is splendidly unmodernised. The Newens have been baking here since the Victorian era while their signature Maids of Honour tarts are said to have originated under the Tudors. Yes, it’s “touristy – but very atmospheric, and the afternoon teas are good”.
