2023 Review: “Tasty thin-crust dough – cooked well in the middle, so no soggy bottoms” – is the secret to the appeal of this seven-strong South London sourdough pizzeria group, where the emphasis is on local ingredients (including Shipton Mill flour and British-made buffalo mozzarella) washed down with locally brewed craft beers and juices from Kent.

“A great addition to Ladywell” in southeast London – this “very good local restaurant” has quickly built a solid reputation for its bistro-style menu. Launched in 2024 by local couple Alina & Joel Falconer, who are also behind sustainable food shop Plenty next door and coffee shop Oscar’s opposite.

“Run by Suleiman the friendly owner – for a long time this Turkish Grill House was literally the ONLY good place to eat in central Lewisham!” and is tipped in our poll as an excellent “cheap ’n’ cheerful” choice. “Kebabs are taken seriously here, properly charred over coals, and good stews are offered as the set meal of the day”. (In his February 2024 review, The Observer’s Jay Rayner also declared himself a fan: a “happy find. I left invigorated, fed and very grateful”).
