Fish & Seafood Restaurants in Mudeford
1. Pebble Beach
French restaurant in Barton-on-Sea
Marine Drive - BH25
“Fresh local fish” is the star turn at this beachside restaurant – in “an excellent location with wonderful coastal views on a good day”. Chef Andy Waters worked under the great French chef Paul Bocuse early in his career. Top Tip – “they also serve an exceptional breakfast”.
2. WestBeach
Fish & seafood restaurant in Bournemouth
Pier Approach - BH2
2022 Review: “Top-notch fish, chips and alternatives” plus a “lovely location” not far from the centre of town make this modern seaside café a good choice for breakfast or lunch, with stunning views from the terrace.
3. Rick Stein
Fish & seafood restaurant in Sandbanks
10-14 Banks Rd - BH13
“You are paying for the location” (especially the “beautiful view of Poole Bay”, if you pull off a table by the picture windows) at this tentacle of Rick Stein’s empire, but it’s nonetheless a “lovely” spot, where the service is “pleasant and attentive”, and the victuals – albeit a tad “formulaic” for some reporters – include “wonderful fishy tastes” that strengthened its ratings this year.
4. Shell Bay
Fish & seafood restaurant in Studland
Ferry Road - BH19
This legendary seafood shack at the Studland end of the Sandbanks chain ferry “does good things with amazing local fish”, “in a gorgeous harbour-side setting (ferry queues notwithstanding)” – with specialities including ultra-local Poole Bay oysters and a variety of whole fish cooked over fire for sharing.
5. The Guildhall Tavern
Fish & seafood restaurant in Poole
15 Market Street - BH15
2023 Review: This gorgeous old tavern on a corner site near the harbour – newly spiffed-up last autumn and with the recent addition of a conservatory – specialises in “excellent-quality” local seafood, served in a warm atmosphere that is “like being in France”.
6. The George Hotel
Mediterranean restaurant in Yarmouth
Quay Street - PO41
2023 Review: A “glorious summer lunch spot” – “if the sun is shining you could be in the South of France drinking rosé and eating lovely – if somewhat pricey – seafood to the soundtrack of Dmitri from Paris”. The seventeenth-century hotel is run by Prince Harry’s pal Howard Spooner, who last year won a High Court battle against his former business partner Sally Johnson, following the pair’s failed attempt to turn The George into a celebrity retreat for A-listers, including old rockers, yachtsmen, polo players and wealthy Americans.
7. The Terrace
British, Modern restaurant in Yarmouth
Quay Street - PO41
2023 Review: This “fab” harbourside wine bar-bistro “with gorgeous views across the Solent” has three glass shelters on its eponymous terrace, so you can eat outside in all seasons. The menu highlight is steaks from retired dairy cows from the island’s Briddlesford Farm, hung for 40 days and cooked to medium for the ‘tangy, rich and yellow fat to melt nicely’.
