1. Winteringham Fields
British, Modern restaurant in Winteringham
1 Silver St - DN15
“If food is love, there is no better place to feel totally wined and dined!” according to fans of this converted sixteenth-century manor house, near the southern banks of the Humber. As the holder of the only Michelin star in North Lincs, it has long been a culinary beacon in this thinly provided neck of the woods and won particular praise this year for “a tasting menu that’s second to none… and the fact that you can stay over too for the perfect date!”. “Really interesting wines from some unusual locations” is another feature that attracts praise. Overall, the establishment’s ratings were dragged down a little this year by a couple of “average” or “overpriced” meals. But, in April 2023 – late in the day for feedback in our annual diners’ poll – the restaurant relaunched with ‘a new immersive experience’ that promises to be ‘like nothing you’ve experienced before’ (‘by knocking through walls and incorporating our kitchen into the restaurant itself, you can [apparently] taste, smell and fully immerse yourself in an unrivaled restaurant experience’). We’ve maintained the former ratings but they are less certain than usual at this time of change.
2. The Star Inn
British, Modern restaurant in Sancton
King St - YO43
2023 Review: A meal at this former coaching inn in the East Yorkshire Wolds is by most accounts “a delightful experience, with many firm pub grub favourites” on the menu. There are “frequently changing seasonal items and specials” and a “great-value Sunday lunch”, all provided with “excellent service and good hospitality”.
3. The Hope & Anchor
British, Traditional restaurant in South Ferriby
Sluice Road - DN18
This capacious boozer-with-rooms near the Humber Bridge has a “great atmosphere” and estuary views. On the food front, their original British cooking embraces the zero-waste approach, with greens foraged in Broughton Woods, and meats (even fancy Wagyu) aged in a glass-front drying cabinet, before finishing in the trendy Josper oven.
