Featured East Sheen Restaurants
1. The Victoria
British, Modern restaurant in East Sheen
10 West Temple Sheen - SW14
An “unexpected find in a quiet location” – this “gorgeous olde worlde pub with delicious food” and big dining conservatory is to be discovered in a leafy suburban street near Richmond Park’s Sheen Gate; and is “a great all-rounder”, run by TV-chef owner Paul Merrett. Other features include six boutique bedrooms upstairs, and a large kid-friendly garden.
2. The Plough
British, Traditional restaurant in East Sheen
42 Christ Church Rd - SW14
Proximity to Richmond Park – a large terrace for sunny days – and a comfortable, attractive interior help justify the ongoing inclusion of this eighteenth-century Fuller’s pub, near Sheen Gate. In other respects, its ratings remain resolutely ordinary.
3. Black Salt
Indian restaurant in Sheen
505 - 507 Upper Richmond Road West - SW14
Really top-class Indian cooking hits the spot at this offshoot of suburban superstar Dastaan (see also), on a busy stretch of road where the South Circular passes through East Sheen. Any suspicions that they “may be resting on their laurels” were allayed by an uptick in the ratings this year. Top Menu Tip – “perfect lamb chops”.
4. Forty Four
International restaurant in Richmond upon Thames
44 Sheen Lane - SW14
Limited but highly positive feedback again on this neighbourhood outpost in East Sheen, where chef Leonard Kola presides over an eclectic menu that mixes steaks and burgers with blackened miso cod and seafood curry.
5. Swine
British, Traditional restaurant in East Sheen
170 Upper Richmond Road West - SW14
“An original greasy spoon on steroids” – this yearling in East Sheen is “the perfect venue for breakfast when you have the builders in your kitchen”, or whenever you just fancy a “fab English breakfast” featuring “out-of-this-world bacon”. Founder James Packman was inspired to create his signature ‘bacon & egg butty’ while working for French chef Bruno Loubet, and spent 10 years selling them from an old ambulance at street markets before opening his first bricks-and-mortar caff in his home suburb.
