2024 Review: “Good all round”, say local fans of this Pan-Asian fixture, which offers East-meets-West presentation of dishes drawn from a variety of cuisines. It brings some light to the thinly provided boonies between Muswell Hill and East Finchley.

2023 Review: This cute family-run Muswell Hill curry house with a small terrace for outdoor dining prides itself on its Mughal-inspired north Indian cuisine, which goes down well with a local clientele.

“A cut above the average chippy” for several decades – this stalwart Muswell Hill fixture was sold in 2024 to the Herts-based Chesterford Group, a century-old family firm with 38 fish’n’chip shops across southern England. “The change of ownership, while widely lamented, has actually given a bit of a fillip to an offering that was getting a bit relaxed” – “the chips seem better, maybe more frequent oil changes”, while “the fish is as fresh as you’d hope from a place with such a high turnover”. It’s “not just your usual fish shop classics” here: “grilled and gluten-free” options are available, and “the wine list is OK, too”. Top Menu Tip – “the grilled plaice fillets are truly magnificent”.

2023 Review: “No menu and it’s whatever is made on the day – I love it!”. Australian chef Chris Honor’s all-day neighbourhood café in Muswell Hill serves “Ottolenghi-style food” to a high standard.

This “excellent local” Indian in the low-key setting of an East Finchley shopping parade trades on its good-value tandoori dishes and curries.

“Wonderful Indian tapas” draws an enthusiastic local crowd to this Childs Hill spot which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year (“we’re lucky to have it in this part of north London”). Some fans, though, “prefer the setting of the newly opened Muswell Hill branch” and say “the divine tapas is just as good as the original”.
