On Friday 5 January Bread Ahead will open its latest bakery and café in a converted old stable on Beak street in Soho. This new site from the famous Borough Market bakers will seat 60 as well as offering take-away options on a signature selection of sourdough loaves, breads, and pastries.
Bread Ahead Beak Street will also serve hot breakfasts and a new menu of savoury dishes for lunch. The rear of the restaurant features a snug seating area, similar to the Mayfair pop-up. Bread Ahead’s signature sourdough loaves will be available, as will other firm favourites including the amaretti, kouign amann and, of course,
their much photographed and loved doughnuts.
On the menu: Croque Monsieur Brioche French toast with jam, honey and icing sugar or bacon and syrup; Scrambled eggs served on a demi-brioche bun with smoked salmon; Toasted brown sourdough with mushrooms and a fried egg. Alongside these will be healthier options such as their ‘build your own’ porridge menu, complete with toppings including cashew butter, roasted coconut flakes, quinoa, chia seeds and Manuka honey.
Bread Ahead will also be offering a selection of ‘free from’ dishes, including their gluten free* waffles (made with chestnut flour) with almond milk yoghurt, berries and compote. Breakfast will be followed by a selection of sandwiches for lunch, served in a variety of Bread Ahead’s classic breads such as sourdough, ciabatta and brioche. New to Beak Street, Bread Ahead will be serving two regularly rotating salads, available to eat in or takeaway.
Founder Matthew Jones opened Bread Ahead’s first bakery in Borough Market in 2013 before opening the Bakery School in 2014. Bread Ahead opened its second Bakery and School at Pavilion Road, Chelsea, last year and
