Occupying a Dickensian fronted pub opposite the iconic Tea Building in Shoreditch is a new all-day restaurant and whisky bar with a subtle hint of the Orient. Bull in a China Shop is the second project from brothers Stephen and Simon Chan, owners of The Drunken Monkey, a Chinese dim sum parlour and cocktail bar just a stone’s throw from their new venture.
On the menu: Chinese spiced, whisky glazed rotisserie chicken, black charcoal brioche buns, superfood salads and a host of breakfast bao buns, smoothies and sweet and savoury congee (rice porridge) with eat-in and take-away options.
The 40-cover all-day restaurant, opening in early April, also boasts a cocktail bar serving over 30 Japanese and Scotch whiskies. A set-price whisky paired, 3 course evening menu will run Thursday-Saturday.
The design ‘concept’ sounds more Shoreditch than a bearded 30-year-old man wearing loafers and riding a skateboard. Created by Sara Lewin (designer of the now infamous Cereal Killer Café) Bull in a China Shop will feature ‘old curiosities’ with a hint of Tretchikoffs ‘Green Lady’ with a collection of medicine bottles, and bone china ornaments, polished copper bar top and a mural by Spanish street artist Borondo.
