Celebrated chef James Cochran, who currently runs his casual fine dining restaurant 1251 in Islington, is to launch a street food concept called Goat.
The Great British Menu winner is opening a site at Boxpark Croydon, with a view to set up there permanently.
On the BBC2 show, Cochran wowed judges with his goat meat main. He gave the public what they wanted, and sold it at Lewisham’s Model Market earlier this year.
In Croydon, he’ll be using Cabrito goat meat, a brand set up by former chef James Whetlor, who makes use of dairy industry billy goats and sells the produce to industry. It is well regarded.
Cochran signature dish will be the star attraction. Either Jamaican jerk goat shoulder or spiced cauliflower will be served with warm flatbreads and Scotch bonnet chilli jam and tamarind yoghurt, as well as served with coriander, corn nuts, and crispy shallots.
Jess, Cochran’s partner, told Harden’s: “The builders are still in, so we’re looking to launch after the 14th.
“We are in the dining hall on the ground floor, and there for a few years.
“We are serving goat meat by Cabrito. And the flatbreads are homemade. The veggie option is crispy cauliflower and then you have a choice of filling between Jamaican ginger beer-soaked onions or mango and lime salsa, and then you get to choose the extra toppings of crispy shallots, coriander and corn nuts.
“It’s really tasty, affordable food from James and we’re super excited to open up in the South, as James has live in South London for the last ten years, and more importantly, Croydon is where I was born!”
