Southeast London Caribbean kitchen finds permanent site

The team behind Deptford’s Jerk Off BBQ have opened their first bricks-and-mortar bar-restaurant, Mauby in Brockley, following a successful crowdfunding campaign.

Vowing to bring “a bit of Soho energy to Brockley”, the team has kicked off with an offer of cocktails, drinks and snacks, to be followed by a full menu taking in home-style Caribbean dishes and barbecue classics.

Daniel and Heleena (left in photo) founded the project from their home kitchen in southeast London, with a focus on Jamaican and Bajan dishes. Their drinks list includes natural wines, craft beers and alcohol-free versions of their cocktails.

Mauby takes its name from a bittersweet drink made from the bark of a tree in the Caribbean. Mauby’s signature cocktail combines Bajan Cockspur rum, mauby syrup and lemon.
