A “no-nonsense music pub” serving “old-school pub food” opens in a historic Camden setting next week from the people behind Le Bab and Kebab Queen. The Dark Horse has taken over the Grade II-listed former horse hospital and stables in Camden Market from The Farrier, which closed just two months ago.
“The Dark Horse is an ode to London,” says Stephen Tozer, the co-founder with Ed Brunet. “It’s an unpretentious boozer bringing together beautiful Victorian architecture, one of the world’s most exciting, diverse music scenes, great English food and cold, cold beer”.
The interior makes much use of the building’s original Victorian brickwork, with stripped wooden floors, cast-iron fittings and vintage furniture. The menu features an all-day English fried breakfast served from opening time at noon, alongside pies, burgers, fish & chips, bangers & mash and butter chicken or paneer curry, with vegan options plus roasts on Sundays – and Stephen promises “there won’t be a burrata in sight”.
Music collective Tape London will programme live music nights and events, featuring both established stars and upcoming acts.
The Farrier ran for three years and was notable for a lavish menu of 10 different Sunday roasts.. The seasonal nature of a site over-dependent on the tourist trade was blamed for its closure in early November.
The Dark Horse opens on Monday 6 January.
