Russian restaurant Zima has opened a new branch in Notting Hill, a decade after the Soho original launched next-door to Ronnie Scott’s jazz club.
The Christmas opening came just two months after the sudden death of founder Alexei Zimin at the age of 52, while visiting Belgrade in Serbia. A writer-turned-chef and television personality, Zimin was an outspoken critic of Vladimir Putin and spent his final years in exile from his native Russia.
The new branch has taken over the former Buvette site in Blenheim Crescent, just off Portobello Road, with counter dining at the front and a dining room at the back. The menu features classic hearty Russian comfort food served with a modern twist.
The drinks list is notable for a range of home-made ‘nastoyka‘ – vodka infused with flavourings both savoury and sweet.
