LIMA finds new City spot to hang

Peruvian restaurant LIMA this week opened its third branch, LIMA Shoreditch, in the boutique Sun Street Hotel on the edge of the City.

Brothers Gabriel & José Luís Gonzales launched the original in Fitzrovia in 2012, and followed up two years later with a Covent Garden branch, Lima Cantina.

Gabriel said, “We are beyond thrilled to be bringing LIMA to East London – a long-term strategy of ours and also a personal dream. It feels like a real honour to be able to bring our unique style of cooking to the masses 12 years after we first opened our doors. Today, as I did back then, I am so proud of the exhilarating food scene in Peru. And now we get to show even more people what we do.”

The new branch replaces restaurant Quercus in the Sun Street Hotel. Guests dine beneath hanging ‘Khipos’ (pictured), inspired by an ancient system of record-keeping used by the Incas. There are two private dining spaces as well as an outdoor terrace.

The cuisine offers a modern take on traditional Peruvian cooking, with influence not just to Nikkei (Japanese) but also Chifa (Chinese techniques blended with native Peruvian ingredients), as witnesses in new dishes including Peking Duck croqueta with aji Amarillo bèchamel.

LIMA Shoreditch is operating a soft launch ahead of its formal opening next Wednesday (9 October).
