Leading sommeliers from two of our survey’s most talked about restaurants have announced ‘An Unexpected Pairing’ – a duo of events designed to challenge preconceived ideas about what makes a great wine and a great sommelier. Sunaina Sethi, co-owner and wine buyer for Mayfair’s “sensationally subtle” Gymkhana, and Sandia Chang, co-owner and sommelier for Fitzrovia’s “phenomenal” Kitchen Table will host the first evening at Gymkhana on 1 June.
The pair will talk guests through a selection of interesting wines and grower champagne as they pair them with a five course menu, focusing on authentically spiced chatpatta dishes, using British ingredients and traditional Indian techniques. Gymkhana’s cuisine pushed it straight into the super-league of London’s nouvelle Indians when it burst onto the scene last year.
The sommeliers’ next collaboration will be held at the “theatrical” and “astonishingly clever” Kitchen Table where they will pair champagne and unique wines to the provenance-led contemporary European menu of celebrated chef James Knappett. Date to be confirmed.
‘An unexpected Pairing’ 7pm at Gymkhana. Tickets are £150 per person. To book email info@gymkhanalondon.com or call 020 3011 5900.
