‘Queen of Spades’ quits London in French retreat

Two heavyweight French restaurants are pulling out of London, with the closure of La Dame de Pic in the City and Café Lapérouse in the Old War Office (OWO) building in Whitehall.

La Dame de Pic, the UK outpost of highly decorated French chef Anne-Sophie Pic (pictured), will serve its final meals next Saturday, 15 February, after an eight-year stint in the Four Seasons Hotel near Tower Bridge. Praising cuisine that was “just superb”, the 2025 Harden’s guide noted that the restaurant’s unpromising location held back its profile.

Announcing the closure in a joint statement, Group Pic and the hotel said they has created an “unforgettable chapter” in the capital: “We are incredibly proud of the two-Michelin-star dining experience we created at La Dame de Pic, delivering exceptional dining and unforgettable moments to all.”

Café Lapérouse, a spinoff from a Parisian establishment with 250 years of history behind it, opened two years in a glass pavilion in the central courtyard of the reburbished OWO, as part of the building’s £1 billion launch as a multi-operator upmarket hospitality hub.

Following the closure this month, its owners released a statement saying: “Moma Group has decided not to continue operating Café Lapérouse London. This decision is part of a review of the group’s locations and brands, their local and international ambitions.”
