Leytonstone’s wildly popular Thai canteen Singburi is to be reborn in Shoreditch under a new guise this spring.
Run for many years as a family-operated, cash-only BYO that was packed out for every service, the Leytonstone venue announced its closure in November for an open-ended “sabbatical”.
Now chef Sirichai Kularbwong (left in photo), the son of the founders, has revealed his plans to open Singburi 2.0 in newly built Mantacute Yards off Shoreditch High Street, with a grill and a drinks licence. His stated aim is “to distil its essence and reimagine the restaurant for a new chapter” under the mantra of “the same, but different”.
Sirichai has teamed up for the new project with chef Nick Molyviatis (right in photo), the founding head chef at Kiln and part of the launch team at Oma in Borough Market last year, and Alexander Gkikas (centre), co-founder of Holborn’s Catalyst Cafe and Roastery.
