Fields coming to Clapham Common

A new all-day café, Fields – big sister to Balham’s much-loved M1LK – is coming to Clapham at the end of September. This latest offering from Julian Porter and Lauren Heaphy will open not far from Clapham Common, next to the skate park on Rookery Road.

Bang on trend for eco-friendly foodies, Fields will have its own roof garden and plant nursery to grow produce and micro herbs to be used on the menu. It will also use its own on-site smoker to create dishes like coal-grilled sausage bao (a sort-of Chinese hotdog), kewpie, pickled shallot and iceberg, peat-smoked mutton and beans, garden herb butter and sourdough and smashed peas, hay-smoked goat’s curd, garden herbs and sourdough.

The 30-cover café, with a heated terrace seating 80, will serve coffee from Workshop Coffee Co and freshly baked cakes from 8am-10pm. Other drinks include heritage apple juice, wild nettle pressé and homemade ginger beer, alcoholic slushies, a selection of natural wines and local beers. Fields was due to open in August but the launch had been postponed due to building delays.
