London’’s first sparkling wine bar – inspired by the cava bars of Barcelona – will be popping its cork in the heart of Soho this summer. Fiz will run a 10-week residency from 20 June at eclectic neon art gallery Lights of Soho on Brewer Street.
The team behind Fiz (Barnaby Lewis, Max Bigland and Jordan Nadian) is on a mission to change the way we drink bubbles. Say goodbye to pretentious, pricy champagne bars; Fiz believes in a continental eating and drinking experience, with guests paying prices that allow them to sample more than one bottle. Glasses of bubbly start from just £4.50, and bottles from £22.
On the drinks list you’ll find not only prosecco and cava, but also award-winning English sparkling wines, up-and-coming Austrian Sekts, bubbles from Brazil, semi-sparkling vinho verde from Portugal, and even sparkling reds. Working in collaboration with wine merchant The Knotted Vine, the team behind Fiz has shortlisted a succinct menu of eight-10 bottles. There will also be a range of summer spritzers, ciders and craft beers.
If you’re after some food to go with your fizz then you’ll find cheese from Cheeses of Muswell Hill, meat and charcuterie from Peckham-based Butcher’s Block, bocadillo-style buns, organic bread from the Celtic Bakers and Chalk Stream Foods’s smoked trout. Every weekend Fiz will host a bottomless sparkling brunch, with unlimited bubbles on offer for £22 per person. Try poached egg muffins, buttermilk pancakes and avocado yogurt pots, all washed down with specially selected house fizz.
