An old Dalston boozer, the Marquis of Lansdowne, is to be reopened next week having been transformed into the Marquee Moon, a restaurant and ‘listening bar’ from the team behind nightclub The Cause.
Stuart Glen and Eugene Wild, who also run Hackney Wick bar All My Friends and The Greyhound in Peckham, have renovated the pub with Art Deco influences, installing a sound system, an underground cocktail lounge and an 80-cover dining room.
New Zealand chef Huri Rapana Neil, formerly of the Bull, will run the kitchen, offering his take on British pub classics with Southeast Asian influences. His menu ranges from masala potato flatbreads, Thai-style sausage and mash, and chicken char siu sandos to a negroni jelly ice cream sundae.
The new venture is named after a classic 1977 album by New York punk rocker Tom Verlaine’s band Television. It will host DJ sets, with a late-night licence until 3am.
Stuart and Eugene said: “Dalston is coming back in a big way. There’s been so many incredible new bars and restaurants opening on Kingsland Road and we’re thrilled to be a part of this resurgence.”
